End Of An Era

We were running around town this afternoon, on a treasure hunt for two pairs of new soccer shoes, when an era in our family came to an abrupt end. I heard Anna say something from her booster seat right behind me:

Anna: "Mom? Did you know that the Cochran's have a piano in their basement?"
Me: (fighting back an errant tear) "What do the Cochran's have in their basement, Anna?"
Anna: "A piano."

Now why did this make me wax a little nostalgic? Because Anna is an extremely articulate child. Always has been. She didn't say many things wrong. But "piano" was one of them. She called a "piano" a "pianio." We'd love to make up reasons for her to say it just so we could giggle. Cutest thing you've ever heard.

But she doesn't say "pianio" anymore. Sigh.

Ahhh, I know what you mean. There are many things Hayley would say that would cause a smile or a giggle....and then one day she gets it right and we're all like, "ah, she says it right now - that's no fun." hehe. But Samantha is talking up a storm...so we have many fun things to look forward to coming out of her mouth. Us silly parents - we take pleasure in the smallest and strangest things. ;)

Oh man...why do they have to grow up? We still refer to a few things at our house by their childhood nicknames. Actually Gr. Joan and I JUST talked about this last week. It wasn't until Russ went to college that he discovered that grilled cheese sandwiches were NOT actually called "Gorilla-cheese". I didn't know until college that a chest of drawers was the correct name for what I always called a "Chester drawers". So you can call it a "pianio" for as long as you want to wax nostalgic!

Yeah...as much as we want them to learn to say things the "right" way, the cute ways they say things are priceless. My two year old used to say "Oh-tay" like Buckwheat. Not anymore. Sigh. It was my favorite.

Ah...we just want them to stay so sweet and inocent forever. Madi has one...hone and roon are home and room. It's so fun being a mom.

Love,
Jeni

I was telling Kaitlyn the other day that kids should not be allowed to grow up. It is heartbreaking and so exciting at the same time when they move into a new stage of their lives. But, if I had my vote, they would stay little forever.

Awwwww...darnit. You know, you could always just teach her the wrong pronunciation of something on purpose....will that delay the growing up any?

sniff sniff....Both Hannah and Eliza used to say "paint nolish" instead of nail polish. haha There are moments now where they still stop themselves because they said it FOREVER! Who told our kids they could grow up?

I'm dreading the day that panpakes becomes plan old pancakes. I will also cry over "fenkoo" and "mudder". *sigh* What mean parenting book said we should encourage our children to talk like adults?
