My Epiphany & A Grateful Heart

I had what I can only describe as a deep awakening today as I was driving Anna to joy school. I listen to a lot of talk radio. And it just so happened that it was the top of the hour and the news was beginning. Leading the report, was the horrible details of human suffering in cyclone destroyed Myanmar. 22,000 dead. 41,000 missing. Hundreds of thousands of people that don't have access to clean water. President Bush literally BEGGING the military-ruled country to allow us to come in with aid and supplies.

I listened, horror-struck in my safe, air-conditioned car, with a tank full of very expensive gas; two of my full, clean and healthy children behind me looking outside at a couple of guys playing golf in the middle of the day, in the middle of a work week; green grass, blue sky, a paved road...

...and I almost threw up. We are so very blessed. So very, very blessed. I will think twice before I complain about any small inconvenience again.

I am in complete agreement. We have SO much to be grateful for. Things we usually take for granted are things others can only dream of. THanks for the post!

I agree too! September 11th I hope is the worse we will ever see in America and that was 3,000, or Katrina...the loss we all feel from those is unforgettable, that 20 times that...I don't know the word. I too will concentrate on the good and be more grateful!

Love,
Jeni

Thanks for that, I needed that. Sometimes I get caught up in life, I just need to stand back and realize how good we have it. We are blessed.

I have these moments. I don't complain about gas because I live in a country that is safe enough to walk in.

You know I have been thinking the same thing. We kinda talked about it in our sunday school how disasters happen everywhere, but because it doesn't happen in the U.S. people just ignore it and don't care as much. Think of how big a deal 9/11 was on us. Wish we cared as much about this cyclone as we did with 9/11. I am truly grateful for my nondramatic, boring life and when things like this happen I wish I could help or show that I care in some way...

That is sickening...where do we even start! i guess by not complaining. We live such sheltered lives.

i also need the wake up call every now and again! it's sad to think that those poor people over there are mothers and fathers who want their children to be safe and healthy just like us. is myanmarr not letting aid in???

I couldn't agree more with you on this! It is just heart breaking and yet it's so real and affecting so many! We take SO much for granted.
Thanks for the reminder today! It is always needed.

AMEN, Sista! Thanks for the reminder. I get too caught up in my own pity party sometimes. Thanks for knocking me back in line! :) I'll leave a little post or something when I finally update my blog.

Wow. We're living in the same world.

I was driving the kids today, listening to NPR, and I SWEAR I had the same thoughts as you. Although today's report said that the death toll could be 100,000 now. Unthinkable.

We are so darn blessed.
