Anna's First Fish & A Friendly Bear

This morning my dad and Tony took the two big kids up to Mirror Lake to do a little bit of fishing. Since it was Anna's first fishing trip EVER, they made a stop on the way so that Grandpa could buy Anna her first fishing pole. Who knew that a bright pink Barbie pole could bring such great luck?!! Anna caught two rainbow trout today (with Grandpa's help) and if you look closely, there is one at the end of her line in the picture. While Anna was getting her fishing lesson, Sam was much more concerned about...

1.) "Do bears live in Alaska?"
2.) "Are bears bigger than people?"
3.) "Are bears faster than people?"
4.) "What exactly do bears eat, aside from fish and berries?"

His concern turned out to be rather timely because on the way home, they took a little drive further down the Old Glenn Highway and guess what they saw lumbering along the side of the road?

I could have cropped this picture tighter, but I wanted to show exactly how CLOSE the dang thing was to the car. A little too close for MY taste...

So awesome! What fabulous childhood memories for them. Did you tell Sam that HE was on the bear's menu?

That is so cool! I'm sure Sam loved it. I'm going to have to ban Brad from reading your blog for the next two weeks... he really wants to move to Alaska and I'm a bit reluctant. Maybe you'll change my mind!

We were actually hoping to see a bear while up in Michigan. Of course, we hoped to see it from the car and not on a trail.

How fun for Anna to learn how to fish from her Grandpa.

WOW! I love the Anna fishing with your dad pic, so cute. My hubby would also LOVE to move to Alaska, but don't think it's gonna happen.
(Great memories though!)

During the whole three years we lived there we only saw 1 bear and that was while we were on a Glacier tour! Now Moose, that is a different story. They were every. Have a great trip!
