DMV Horror & Cold Hands, Warm Heart

What is it with the DMV? I had to go renew my driver's licence this morning and it was quite an adventure. Don't get me wrong...the ladies who helped me were all very nice. But maybe its because I went when normal people are working that I ran into the strange ones. There's the lady who (bless her heart) didn't have any teeth and ended up in my line, only to discover that she was looking for the public defender's office and not the DMV. Yikes. But the worst part was after I actually got my licence. When I got to the parking lot (and if you're squeamish, don't read this next part) I got Josh into his car seat and went to get into the front. I happened to look down and see something gross that someone had hacked up and spit out. And while trying to keep my breakfast down and avoiding the unpleasantness and get into the car, I whacked my head on the edge of the car door. And then, I kid you not, I looked over to make sure nobody had seen me and a guy in a 25-year-old Pinto held together with duct tape was actually laughing at me. At least I got the bruise on my forehead AFTER my new driver's licence picture.

And here are the gifts we came up with this month for the ladies we visit teach. I'm a sucker for stretch gloves so I got a few pairs from the $1 bin at Target and placed them with some silver shred, a couple packets of Stephen's hot chocolate and some truffles in a big cafe mug. Wrapped them all up in cellophane and attached a little tag that I dry embossed "Cold Hands, Warm Heart" on. A little silver sparkle ink along the edges and a snowflake brad and we are ready to go for the holidays!

Happy December!

Sorry but I couldn't help but chuckle at your morning. At least you are done and shouldn't have to go back for maybe a decade?

OMG those are my MOST FAVORITE truffles in the whole wide world!!!! Your gifts are so warm and wintry...love them!

I once had a guy slip me his number while waiting at the DMV. I didn't look at it until I was back in my car. He had written it on the back of his bail-bond reciept! Needless to say, I didn't make that call.

I have to take my son to the DMV tomorrow to renew his license. I hope my experience is better than yours!

The mugs you put together were clever, cute and useful! Great job!

Love your December banner, by the way. Your mantle looks GREAT.

Oh no. Poor thing. Don't you hate it when that happens. And, you know how much it hurt~ doesn't it make you wonder how in the heck our kids can handle getting bonked and bumped and not flinch and keep on going? I need some kid energy back in my body~ I am now a wuss!

Your winter pressies are so cute! I love them! Hey~ those would be good teacher and office staff gifts for me to make. My wheels are turning.

Happy Monday and 1st of a new month~ YEA! xo, Les

Dang. I loath the DMV. Ever since I had to take my driver's test, and just about passed out because I was so nervous and the guy was so mean, I've never had a good experience going there. I'm so sorry about your bad experience.

Aaaand...your VT gift idea is so darling. Once again, I'm wishing you were my visiting teacher. or neighbor. or at least living in the same state. :)

Hee! Hee! I had to chuckle about your day. You have no idea how many times I have bruised my forehead because I hit my head on the car trying to get in. I really shouldn't admitt to that, should I?

First, great gift idea. You can never, ever, ever go wrong with hot chocolate. I am a sucker for stretch gloves, too. Your VT ladies are going to LOVE this!

So sorry about your DMV day. It's the same no matter what state you live in! When I got my Louisiana license, they kept calling me "Shawana" Borg. I gave up trying to correct them! That actually turned into my nickname down there. Anyway, nothing compared to your experiences, but I can't hear "DMV" without thinking about that cramped office down in New Orleans! Hope your head feels better.

FInally, and most importantly, I sent you a little birthday treat via email ... hope it made it to you and not to your junk box (that happens to me all the time!). I hope you have a very special day! Sending you lots of love and good wishes!
