Lent, 2009 Style

For those of you who are newish to our family blog, you might want to read this post about the journey of "Lenting" that my sister and I take each year. No, we're not Catholic. But the idea of self-mastery is really cool. And last year, my friend Courtney, who IS ACTUALLY Catholic, shared with me that Lent is also a time to ADD something meaningful to your life. I thought this was a wonderful addition to my "Lenting" this year. So, without further ado, this year I am "Lenting" chocolate again. It was either chocolate or Dr. Pepper. There is a crazy amount of stress in my life right now. I think I need my Dr. Pepper. So chocolate it is. In addition to NOT eating chocolate during the 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter, I am going to make a card and sent it to some unsuspecting friend or loved one each week. At least one. Maybe more.

What are YOU "Lenting?"

I think you and I share the same weaknesses. The difference is I don't think I could give up either. It might affect my familial relationships too much. ( =

But I might consider adding something nice. That would be a good thing for me to do. I like your card idea. I will have to think on that.

You are awesome, I admire your self mastery and I know you will totally make it.

Bryce goes to a Catholic school and this grade they're really old enough to 'get it' and understand Lent. It was neat to hear him come home today and talk about how they went to Reconciliation, about how they needed to choose something to 'take on' during Lent, etc...
I told him I am giving up chocolate for Lent (I'm with you on this one girl~ keep me in check so I don't cave, o.k.?!?) and I'm taking on being patient with my children.
With Jason away I'm sure I might be a bit more at the end of my rope at times, so I just need to remember that they are the best gift ever and to give lots of extra love, kindness and understanding!
Happy Lenting to you deary~ Many hugs, Les

Good thinking on the Dr. Pepper choice...I'm a pepper too, and that would be REALLY hard! : D

I'm adding fruits to my lent...I need to 'add' them in to my life.

Haven't thought about giving up anything....the thought scares me a little. : )

I actually gave up chocolate last year for Lent and ended up gaining five pounds because I substituted "cake" to satisfy my sweet tooth. This year I'm going to give up cake. Hmmmm...wonder what I'll substitute for that!!

I'm with you, I'll try the chocolate. Even though I only have Dr. Pepper when we go out to eat, I'm not so sure I could do without it!

I love that you do this. I have some very good Catholic friends and every year I am so impressed with the things their children will sacrifice. I love the addition of something good. And it has been soooo fun to catch up on your blog again! Let's chat soon!
