Look Who Hatched!

As you can see in the picture in our header, we had a mommy robin lay 2 (and later another) eggs in a nest she built in the corner of our play set. Because they spend so much time playing on the play set when they are outside, we were concerned that the kids would bother the nest and that the mommy robin would abandon the eggs. So we gave the kids a stern talking to about the importance of leaving the nest alone. Apparently, they were obedient because on Saturday, Sam came running in to tell us that we have three little baby robin birds in our nest!

Don't tell mommy robin, but I hope they get a little cuter.

My mom had 3 hatch in a bush in her yard on Saturday too. The kids came running inside absolutely THRILLED they'd discovered it before grandma. I'm with you, there ugly little things right now.

Oh! You guys are in for a treat. It really is so fascinating to watch them grow. They grow so quickly! We made a little video about the ones we observed in our tree last year. From egg to flying in less than about a month. Amazing.

I think it is cool that you have a real "Wild Kingdom" right in your back yard, between the bunny/crow
incident and the hatching of the robins. What a way to learn
lessons about nature--bet the kids
will never forget!
