It has been many years since we have lived on base. And I captured a moment this afternoon that is the perfect example of one of the reasons I LOVE living on base. Wherever you are at 4:30 p.m., if you can hear The National Anthem playing as they take the base flag down, you stop walking, or stop your car, and you put your hand on your heart.
I love that my children are learning to love and respect their country.

That is the best part about living on base!
Once when Ben was one, I was walking him around the neighborhood...Scott AFB. Ben couldn't walk all by himself but would hold on tight to the back of the wagon and walk. Well when Retreat started I stopped for the National Anthem...not Ben, he stood their holding on to his wagon and started bouncing/dancing to the music...to this day it cracks me up.
That's too cool. We need to appreciate our liberties, and do all we can to keep them!
:~D
I remember the taps being played when I was a little girl. They shot cannons, too. I remember the feeling of patriotism when I looked around and saw that everyone was still and holding their hand over their heart.
Your kids will remember too.
We lived on the Presido, in SF. Pretty special place.
That is pretty tender and I could see myself getting choked up about it on a daily basis.
Being able to say the pledge every day makes me love subbing. It makes me so happy to see the kids getting that opportunity.
I forgot about that!!! Brings back memories of growing up on Air Force Bases. Do they still play the National Anthem before a movie starts at the base movie theater?
Such a sweet picture. I really enjoyed hearing that on a daily basis while living on base. Ours was at 5:00 and signaled to the kids that dinner was near.
That is so neat. A lot of people definitely don't have the respect for our country that we should. I LOVE your bag, doesn't she have the cutest fabric........I've never bought any, but one of these days........
I love it when they play the National Anthem at the theater too. It makes me teary every time.
I loved that so much too - makes you feel so connected to everyone too! thanks for sharing.

What a sweet moment to capture. It's even sweeter when you think this little guy is only 2 years old! =)
