Finding A New Normal & A Snake Wreath

I'm home and the minute the airplane landed, I hit the ground running. I'm figuring if I stay busy that "it" won't hurt so much. It still hurts, but I sure am getting a lot accomplished! Which, at least, is something.

My goal is that every day, I do something fun out of my "projects-to-do" pile. This is one that had Sam and I giggling yesterday after he got home from school and helped me line up all these plastic snakes to get spray painted. I got the idea from Martha Stewart's Living's October issue (I think) and haven't been able to find it anywhere on her site so I scanned in the actual picture from her magazine. Ick. Snakes.

Why didn't anybody think of this before?? Grapevine wreaths just cry out to be covered in plastic snakes. And can I just tell you how much I am loving spray paint? I don't use it often, but for this project it was perfect. And fun. So this is how my Martha inspired Halloween snake wreath turned out. I also taped up the red tongues on the snakes that had them so they would stay red. We even got it hung by the front door, all ready to greet our unsuspecting guests.

And in true Tony fashion, he walked right by it on the way into the house after work last night. Didn't notice a thing until I took him back outside to show off our handiwork.

Thank goodness it wasn't made of REAL snakes.

Sheesh.

don't to be afraid to let "it" hurt now and again...it's good for you and you'll feel better afterwards. :-)

I made this wreath tonight. I also spotted it in the Martha Stewart magazine a couple weeks back, and decided to make it. I love mine!

I also saw this in Martha Stewart Living and loved it! Bought everything at the dollar store. Doctored it up with moss, and a cool glitter skull that I wrapped a snake through. I used gloss paint though and it took a few days to dry but does it look great! Also, got the idea to use gray paint because of the moss to make it all look like stone - headstone - will try that next year.

Hey. Love this and really want to try it. I'm having a tough time with glue gun/rubber snake combo though. Any idea where I could find original instructions?

Thanks!

I smiled so big when I followed a pinterest link and was brought to your blog. I've missed reading it. I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. I've lost my dad and my father in law and it's hard.

This is so awesome. I didn't see in MS so I'm glad you made it :) It is in my fall "must do" pile. I'll be linking to this on Wee Folk Art's Facebook page.

I tried this last year, but my snakes did not want to stick using a glue gun. Did you have this problem? Can you suggest another method? Thanks!

This turned out great! My boys will love helping with this and the result afterward! I'll have to hit the $ store for some snakes to spray paint! :) Thanks for sharing :)

What did you glue them on with? I tried this last year using a glue gun and my snakes fell off too.

Use florist wire and wrap around the snake in two places. As you discovered the hot glue didn't hold the snakes and if it had, the glue "unsticks" outside in the cold. Happy Halloween!

Wondering if you could help me? I made this same wreath with a glossy black paint and the wreath dries fine but the rubber snakes are really sticky and just won't seem to dry! Any idea what I can do?

How many snakes did you use?

I so want to do this, but instead of spraying the wreath black Im going to do either a grey or silver so the snakes stand out. Im also making papercarnations in black trimmed with red marker to place on it

How did you attach the snakes? Did you glue them or intertwine them with the wreath?

Hi!! Great looking wreath!! But how many snakes did it take to cover the grapevine wreath?
