So, our delightful Sam was very busy this weekend at his art table apparently devising the world's first "kind" mousetrap. Let me digress a moment. We don't have a mouse problem at our home, knock on wood. And although Sam is an animal FANATIC, he seems to find no qualms about hunting animals. So we're not sure where this whole responsible extermination idea evolved from. I hope my pictures do it justice.
When I asked Sam to explain his idea, he said that he made the trap look like a clubhouse...a cool place where mice would want to hang out and eat cheese. So they would voluntarily enter the trap through the font door.
The mouse will believe that he is in for a grand 'ole time until he looks at the wall on the inside of the trap where the back side of the door is. The monster's mouth is covering the door, frightening the mouse so badly that he won't be able leave back through the door.
And if that isn't enough to stop the mouse's escape, the sign on the floor meaning "do not leave, mouse" is sure to do the trick.
When Sam finds a mouse in his mousetrap, he plans on releasing him in the backyard. Easy. PETA would be proud.

Genius. He will make millions.
Wow... that is the BEST... much more humane than Uncle Dave putting it in a black garbage bag and smashing it with a hammer on the garage floor... although, at least with Dave's way the mouse will probably not return. Way to go Sam!
A brilliant idea. And humane, too. Although, maybe Sam gives the mice a bit too much credit for
being smart. . . after all, they are only mice! Can mice read?
:) the grandma
I have to say that is one of the cutest stories I ahve read in a while!
Thanks for sharing!
Amy
That is a great mouse trap, I love it.
He MUST get his brains from his mom. I do believe I once saw a list for making a swimming pool in the back yard that went something like this:
1. Dig a hole
2. Find somewhere to put all the dirt...
SO CUTE!
I'd be scared of the monster face! What a really great mouse trap.
This is absolutely fool proof! Way to go sam. I think he should market them :)
Very creative kids you have. That is such a great way to get a mouse!
What a very smart little boy. My son and nephews tried to catch a mouse once. Kids are hilarious with their thought processes.
Sam is so creative! I love his thought process and his artwork!! I also love that you took pictures, so that you can always remember what he made.
What an artist! What a thinker! What a mastermind! I'll take one if I ever have the mouse problem!
I sense a future millionare inventor...
Ha ha ah! That is amazing! sell it on the Home Shopping Network
What an awesome mouse trap! The picture's inside are sure to scare the mouse from moving once he's inside. What a creative idea--Sam, you rock!
Kids say and do the darndest things
